Orleans Firebirds’ pitcher Mitchell Jordan (Stetson U) is having quite the success when it comes to expiring batters from the mound. Jordan leads the Cape Cod Baseball League in strikeouts with 40. Jordan is 5-0 with a 0.00 ERA, allowing 11 hits and five walks in 33 innings pitched.
At Stetson, Jordan pitched 68.2 innings and fanned 50 batters in his freshman year, only 10 away from what he has currently pitched on the Cape.
The 2014 regular Cape League season ended with the leader in strikeouts, a three way tie between Marc Brakeman (Stanford), Kolton Mahoney (BYU), and Matt Hall (Missouri St), all having fanned 47 batters.
The 2013 regular CCBL season ended with Hyannis’ Kyle Freeland (Evansville) leading the league in strikeouts with 48.
With fifteen games left in the 2015 season, we will see if Jordan can break the 2013 regular season record of 48 strikeouts or his school record of 50 strikeouts.
Jordan also leads the league in ERA (0.00) and is tied for wins (5) with Y-D’s Ricky Thomas (Fresno State).
