The last time the All Star game was played at Wareham’s Spillane Field was in 2007. The East division won by a score of 3-2. The winning pitcher was Y-D’s Nick Cassavechia. The East division MVP was Falmouth’s Aaron Crow, RHP drafted in the 1st round in 2009 by the Kansas City Royals. Crow made his Major League debut with the Royals in March of 2011. The West division MVP in 2007 was Orleans’ Dennis Raben, 1B and RF, who was drafted in the 2nd round in 2008 by the Seattle Mariners.
Prior to 2007, the last ASG played at Spillane Field was in 1999. The West division won the game 6-4 and the winning pitcher was Bourne’s Andy Beal, LHP, who was drafted in the 5th round of the 2000 draft by the New York Yankees. The West division MVP was Cotuit’s Garrett Atkins, 3B and 1B. Atkins was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 5th round of the 2000 draft and made his Major League debut in August of 2003. The East division MVP was none other than Orleans’ Mark Teixeira. Teixeira, 1B, was drafted in the 1st round in 2001 by the Texas Rangers and made his MLB debut in April of 2003. Teixeira is the current first-baseman for the New York Yankees.
